56th TIFF


In this year’s Balkan Survey films of the 56th Thessaloniki Film Festival (6-15 November), the Culture and Tourism Office of the Turkish Embassy in Athens participated as an official partner. The following turkish films were screened in this year's festival:

"Motherland" by Senem Tüzen, a Turkish-Greek production, winner of the 53rd TIFF’s Film Market Crossroads award.

"Frenzy" by Emin Alper (Special Jury Prize, Venice Film Festival),a post-apocalyptic thriller set in Istanbul.

Deniz Gamze Ergüven’s "Mustang" (Europa Cinemas Label Award, Cannes Film Festival – also a 53rd TIFF Crossroads project), another outstanding debut film full of feminist energy.

"Mother Virgin No More" by Derya Durmaz and "Tuesday" by Ziya Demirel, two short films which comment on the status and role of women in the Turkish society.

The 56th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (6-15 November 2015) came to an end with its award ceremony. The 56th TIFF, drew the attention of the cinephile audience who filled the screening theaters. The Turkish film “Mustang” of Deniz Gamze Ergüven (co-production of France-Turkey-Germany), won the Fisher Public Audience Award at the “Balkan Survey” section and also won another statuette to its trophy case, a few hours ago, by being awarded the European Parliament’s LUX Prize 2015, during the plenary session in Strasburg.
