AHRODISIA

The nomination of Turkey, a member of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for inscription of the “Aphrodisias Archaeological Site” on UNESCO World Heritage List has been adopted during the ongoing 41st UNESCO World Heritage Committee session in Krakow, Poland, and the site has been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Aphrodisias, which is located within the borders of province of Aydın and has been on Turkey’s World Heritage Tentative List since 2009, is one of the most important archaeological sites of Turkey as a unique archaeological heritage with well preserved sculptures, monuments, inscriptions, structures and marble quarries.

As a result of intensive efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the adoption of this decision, the number of inscribed properties of Turkey on UNESCO World Heritage List has increased to seventeen.
